Every year in November and December, I spend countless hours at dusk watching and listening for morepork calls, trying to track their movements back to a nest site. It’s often a long and painstaking process, with thousands of trees and potential cavities for them to choose from, finding the right one takes real patience. But after weeks of searching, I was rewarded with this moment: a beautiful female morepork peeking her head out of the nest, waiting to be fed by her partner. A truly special scene to witness, and an even greater privilege to photograph.
