This image came after an early start and a 9km trek along the beach to the iconic Cape Kidnappers in beautiful Hawke’s Bay. Hot, sweaty, and a little worn from the walk, I began searching for an intimate moment within the bustling gannet colony. Among the chaos, I found this touching scene, a pair courting and carefully placing seaweed to prepare their nest. It’s a quiet glimpse into the tenderness that exists amid the noise and energy of colony life.
