Title: Ghost Tūī 

Photographing the White Tūī was not just a moment, it was a once-in-a-lifetime encounter. Tūī are known for their iridescent feathers, melodic calls, and bold personality, but this bird was unlike anything I had ever seen. With its striking white plumage caused by a rare genetic condition known as leucism, this tūī stood out like a ghost among the green canopy.

I had heard whispers of its existence from a local in the Bay of Plenty area, and had to go check it out. I spent hours watching, waiting, listening in silence. Then as the light fell late in the day it revealed itself light a ghost suddenly appearing. It wasn’t just the colour that took my breath away it was the way it moved, sang, and claimed its place like any other tūī, oblivious to its rarity.

Capturing this image required patience, stillness , and a deep respect for nature. It’s more than just a photo; it's a symbol of uniqueness, resilience, and the quiet magic that still exists in our wild places.

This limited edition print is a tribute to that fleeting moment and the beauty of what’s rare. Only a small number of prints will ever be made, ensuring each one carries the uniqueness of the bird itself.
