About the team - John Parker
John Parker is an award-winning wildlife photographer and the founder of Maddox Photography NZ. His work is recognised for its emotional depth, refined composition, and powerful storytelling drawn from remote and demanding environments.
Before transitioning into professional photography, John built a career in outdoor instruction and professional firefighting, disciplines that shaped his calm leadership style, risk awareness, and ability to operate confidently in extreme conditions. This background brings a level of preparedness and situational control rarely found in photographic expeditions.
John’s approach combines technical precision with patience and ethical fieldcraft. He believes the most compelling wildlife imagery is earned through understanding behaviour, respecting environment, and embracing stillness. On expedition, you are guided not only by an accomplished photographer, but by an easy going leader trained to prioritise safety, composure, and fun in the field.
About the team - Sonia Rampling
Sonia Rampling is a seasoned professional photographer and founder of Flying Parrot Photography. https://www.flyingparrot.au
With more than two decades of experience in commercial photography, design, and visual storytelling, she has worked closely with tourism bodies and private enterprise to capture images with both impact and authenticity.
Her move into dedicated wildlife photography was a natural evolution, bringing together technical expertise, creative instinct, and a lifelong love of birds and wild places.
Today, Sonia is known not only for her imagery, but also for helping others build confidence, refine their technique, and develop their own creative eye.
Her photography is recognised for its technical precision, strong composition, and authentic portrayal of avian behaviour. She works with patience, awareness, and deep respect for her subjects, reading subtle behavioural cues and anticipating fleeting moments without intrusion.
In the field, Sonia brings a calm, professional presence balanced by a light-hearted approach and an easy sense of humour. She has a natural way of putting people at ease, lifting spirits when conditions are challenging, and helping create an experience that feels as enjoyable as it is rewarding.
